Orange RockCorps is a company set up in the US to encourage people to
get involved in volunteering within their own communities, by giving
just four hours volunteering time volunteers are given tickets to an
exclusive gig, usually with some big names donating their time to play.
Orange, in partnership with RockCorps wanted to bring this idea to the
UK, initially trialing the idea in London with a gig for 5000
volunteers, but within three years rolling it out across the whole
The primary focus of all the activity would be the site, which would
allow volunteers to nominate, find and sign up for projects, as well as
follow projects via the blogs and feeds.
In addition to the site we created a virtual M25 of supporting media,
shamelessly plundering and utilising whatever tools we could get our
hands on to help people spread the word and get people talking and
Further proof of the concept was in the speed in which the project was aggregated with minimal traditional media involvement.
The whole 2008 project and all surrounding media was created and kicked
around by the small but perfectly formed team of Group account director - Alex Light, myself, Orange art director - Marc davies and front end
developer Gemma Leigh.
in 2008 we had over 15000 volunteers working on projects, this year,
with the event rolling out in Manchester as well as London, we've seen
in the region of 50,000 volunteers given and got given.
