The Ode to Vignelli Series is a personal project created to highlight key practices and sayings from The Vignelli
Canon by Massimo Vignelli. I tried to create posters that
would both showcase and use the techniques from his
Canon. By using a select number of typefaces, the same
grid throughout, and just three colors, I tried to maintain
continuity and justify Vignelli’s words.
Each piece keeps track of the exact location of the quote
used and touches on the meaning of the set. I used black,
white, and cyan to show the range one can achieve with
a limited palate, choosing a blue tone to compliment the
cover of the Canon. I do not, by any means, take credit
for the excerpts used throughout these pieces, and
merely wish to honor a true master of our time.
