When asked to build an aggregator for the Occupy Wall Street movement by Fearless Cottage, we first began on a concept. Since OWS was so young at the time, we wanted to protect its uniqueness and mysiticism. The concept we arrived at was to build: A vehicle of self definition for the movement. Our first priority was to simply grab the extensive amount of information that mainstream media was missing to show the public the reality of the movement. Second we wanted to organize the data to be a news source and a tool for users following the movement.
The site was very popular. In just two weeks, we received over 10k hits, more than 2k Facebook likes, and an article in the Egotist, Mashable and many other blogs. After the first two weeks, we continued to be picked up by various media channels and were mentioned in the Economist and Washington Post along with being recruited to speak to a graduate level Journalism class.
We combed the internet to find all trending twitter sources, videos, images and "decencies."
