Part 1
Although illegal in many countries for its cruelty, cockfighting is a very popular cultural tradition in Colombia, where many arenas can be found throughout the country. All of this can only be explained by the huge ammounts of cash that flow during the bettings that take place during every fight.
This is a photo essay about this culture comissioned by SoHo magazine. 
Chía, Cundinamarca. The training takes place at farms specialized in growing the perfect cock through many years of empiric genetic studies.
Chía, Cundinamarca. All cocks undergo painful surgeries aimed to diminish their weaknesses.
Villavicencio, Meta. Weighing and measuring the cocks is mandatory in order to establish their category.
Dosquebradas, Risaralda. Turtoise spikes are put into place right before the fight.
Villavicencio, Meta.- Briceño, Cundinamarca. Blades are illegal in Colombia, so the most comoon spikes are those made out of turtoise shell. There's also plastic ones approved by the colombian cock fighting federation "Fedegallos".
