Nottingham Trent University Decorative Arts Course Degree Show.
NTU have asked me to do the degree show book and branding for the Dec Arts course.
The project is still ongoing, initially I was only asked to do the book depicting all student contact details and work.
I recommended a brand should be implemented for the show and also developed the idea of producing various other forms of printed material to be giving out at the show.
Development of typeface for the logo.
Created 'notches' to be taken out of the text. The letter forms have been altered and the spacing decreased.
The final type is robust but smooth, the notches are subtle and lead the readers eye. Extending the 't's' ascender hieght brings balance and some elegance to a bold san serif.
The typeface has then been developed into a logo and brand.
Thee are 53 students on the Dec Arts course, this is shown by the 'notches' taken from the background circle.
Initially the 'notches' were too sharp so they have been softened.
Experimentation with 'notch' size and weight, also the use of stroke outline as well as solid colour.
The final logo shows the 'notch' name to be carved form the notched circle.
The course is made from the students the name from the course.
53 spreads, Each student has one full bleed close up of their work, an inspirational board depicting items that inspire their work and process, a mug shot and contact details.
The book has a tight grid, unified throughout.
Along the right hand side are the list of students, At the appropriate spread the name is highlighted by a 'notch' icon. This serves as a scrolling index when flicking through the pages.
