By 2025 the Norwegian society shall be complete in Universal Design solutions. This has been decided by
the goverment. User friendly solutions will be a natural part of how we interact. Graphic design has a long way to go in this respect.
In my project Norwegian public transport tickets - A «Universal makeover» I emphasize how graphic
designers can contribute considerably in order to make everyday life easier for disabled persons as well
as everybody else!
Through my research of todays collective transport tickets in Norway, I discovered: The variation in sizes, typography, colour and materials is confusing and far from universally designed.
The need of a better standard is obvious.
My project concludes with one standard to replace the whole variety of tickets confusing travelers today.
Colour combinations, typography, tactility and materials are carefully chosen in order to optimize readability and user friendliness. The best readable sizes and the contrasts have been especially important.
Regrettably the web page cannot show tactility. My NorGo tickets have patterned edges, and relief
typography (elevated, tactile letters). This adds a third dimension which can provide crucial information
not only to a blind, but to any busy traveller.
Only by making it possible to be individual we can be truly equal!
