We were challenged by Bishop W. Earl Bledsoe and Communications Director Dr. Sheron Patterson of The North Texas Conference to create a new face for the Conference Website. The challenge was to allow the website to welcome those not familiar with the United Methodist Church, but also be more user friendly to the other 99% of the traffic - hundreds of church pastors, staff and the like that visit the Conference Office website each day.
What you will see in the screenshots below is how our design successfully accomplished this challenge.

The home page uses warm colors, is inviting to the visitor, has real people on it and draws the users attention to one of six major "needs" they may be experiencing in life. This section of the website will be solely focused on connecting the user with one of the 320 local churches in the North Texas area. The goal is to "Reach out to the Heart of North Texas".The Menus
There are two main navigation drop down menus. The "For Guests" menu is basically another way to keep perusing the same six icons that were shown on the home page. This also means that someone who lands on some page other than the homepage sees this same messaging and has no problem navigating to one of these pages.
The "For Churches" menu is basically the "home page" for all pastors, church staff and church laity to navigate directly to the area they need on the website. So existing users only need to know about that single menu in order to get to all the content specific to their needs.Summary
The reception by all those who have seen the design has been very positive! This design will roll out on the Conference website beginning January 2012.
