This collection of prints includes the hardest working man in show business James Brown; Author and seer George Orwell; Cooking legend Julia Child; Gypsy Jazz guitarist Django Reinghardt, and gravel-voiced troubadour Tom Waits. Waits is a late edition, but I've always liked this picture. The idea came from a Greil Marcus quote, who described someone as having, "a face like a map of America." The Django print originally was done for Brooklyn's DjangoFest, which happened at ShapeShifter Lounge earlier this year. The other threee debuted at my first gallery show at The Aurora Gallery in Long Island City, Queens. They didn't fit in with the jazz theme of the other prints, but I wanted to feature them regardless.
These images are made with a combinaion of traditional and digital media, printed with lightfast inks on acid-free textured paper. I'm limiting them to 25 signed, numbered prints apiece.
My second series of prints will debut at Dizzy's in Park Slope, Brooklyn this spring. I plan to feature Charlie Parker, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington and, of course, Dizzy Gillespie, among others.
