  • Nephilim Muse & Pertis Plus - Origins
    Packaging / Album Art
  • Bringing Origins to fruition was a personal milestone.

I was turned on to Conscious Hip Hop by a mutual acquaintance. This was around the same time that Myspace was really popular and I listened to nothing but local music. I discovered Pertis Plus while surfing some Miami Artist. To make a long story short, we began collaborating and decided to turn our music into a venture.

The Album Art herein is reflective of my first real Photoshop project. At the time, I did not believe that design would be the path I would choose as a career, but I did see its potential, mainly for how much joy I found in it. Everything you see in the packaging of this album coincides with the themes conveyed in the music and lyrical delivery: religious and spiritual skepticism, coming-of-age friendship, outward anger, esoteric ideas, and generally self-absorbed elements of vanity. I hope you enjoy it.
  • This is the Origins album cover. An ex-girlfriend of minewas member to an artistic group called Rossism. They would get together and paint on canvas. At the end of the year they would trade their paintings with one another. Our relationship did not make it to the New Year so I had several paintings I’d slapped together. Like the lyrics to Origins, the paintings were highly visceral and shared similar themes to the music, so I collaged and layered some of these paintings together to bring the cover together. There are also some photos of Pertis Plus and I mixed in with a luminous blend to give the cover our presence in the form of a ghostly figure.
  • I got some friends of mine over to the house for an official album photo shoot.  The album was titled Origins because it not only explores the duality of science and creation, but the Origins of my upbringing as well. The outer album art mainly conveys the religious and spiritual themes throughout the album. We still had the gorilla outfit from the music video shoot and the fairy wings from Halloween. We had a Sexy Angel and a Sexy Demon pose with the gorilla to represent the simple concepts of science and creation.
  • The inner album art consist mainly of my own personal Origins. There are pictures of family and friends collaged throughout the frame of the art. The background consists of layers of microscopic sperm and topographical maps of my suburban neighborhood.

  • The back of the album brings all the spiritual themes together. I wanted the fundamental ideas to be conveyed harmoniously; while at the same time pointing out the irony of bringing contradicting elements together. The gorilla of course represents science. The general idea is that the fate of the world is being determined by a game of cards between good and evil. The Sexy Demon (Deserae Felix) leers pompously upon the Sexy Angel’s (Gaby Ortiz Garcia) loving concern over the situation at hand: cradling the gorilla (Andres Almeida) softly in her arms. I chose this picture for its fun irony and the fact that it conveys the overall confusion that I’m presented with every time that I ponder where we all came from.
