The project itself focuses on the liberation of Iraq.
For the first month of the project, I extensively researched the so-called liberation of Iraq, to which I discovered a list that contained the names of 70 soldiers who had lost their lives in Iraq.
One strange thing I noticed was that there was very little information about who the soldiers were and how or where they were killed in action. 'Naming The Dead' aimed to expose and document the conflict.
The more research I carried out, the more I felt I wanted to give a voice to the 176 soldiers who lost their lives fighting in Iraq between 2003 and March 2008. The research for the project was gathered from a variety of sources. I found the most informative to be interviews with soldiers and their families.
Each aspect, from the design to the type of stock used, was critical to me as I wanted to give the project an authentic feel, like it had just been pulled from the deserts of Iraq itself.
