Naked... Covered.

  • Naked... Covered.
    Flamingo Research Presentation
  • The brand research company Flamingo sent a few of their amazing team into college to run a project aimed at stretching our research skills. We were a part of the research process ourselves and then shown how to interpret the research we produced. Finally, we were tasked with creating something to present the research that also reflected it in some way.
  • The theme of the research was 'beauty' - how we interpreted it, responded to it, understood it. We spent a few weeks blogging our experiences with images, photographing everything from our daily lives that we associated with beauty. Our beauty regimes, products we used, opinions we had, adverts we saw all went onto the blog.

At the end of the research period the Flamingo team compiled it and did their magic, finding three main themes from our research. Finally, they provided us quotes from the research that demonstrated the varied opinions and ideas that came through. These were to be the content for our final design.
  • My final design idea was to draw out the quotes that related to the outward appearance - and order them into a spectrum from 'naked' to 'covered'. I referenced chemistry molecular diagrams as a way to tie all the information together and reflect the 'natural' that is represented in organic chemistry.

The colour spectrum moved from 'naked' skin colour to a pinker 'make-up' look from left to right in the design.
  • The design is A6-size, the pages were French-folded, one long length of paper folded concertina-like into pages. The sides were made with 'fans' whose edges were placed between each page. I wanted to create something that had 'keep-ability' to it, something that could be explored, picked up and put down and browsed through. I hoped it was accomplished through this.
