After many years becoming a finalist but not quite the winner. My shot of Megan Washington, taken backstage at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney, edged me ahead and won the NME photographer of the year 2011/12, in reportage category.
In celebration NME held an exhibition which showcased 2011s best music photography, was a six day run at London's 'The Print Space'. From January 6th-11th, 2012.
The Launch was attended by artists including Kate Nash and The Maccabees who turned out to see NME snapper, Dean Chalkey, win the 'outstanding contribution to music photography' award.
The competition which attracts entries from both amateur and professional photographers from around the world. Sponsored by Nikon and judged by NME photo director Marian Paterson, staff photographer Penne Smith and Andy Wilsher. Picture editor Zoe Capstick and deputy editor Mike Williams. This year's winning shots include a portrait of Alex Turner from Arctic Monkeys, The Subways performing live and the album covers of the White Strips.
