NIKE – Catch The Flash

In fall of 2011 Nike launched the Vapor Flash Jacket in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. A jacket for runners which is unique, because it is fully reflective and makes the runner visible in the dark – even with the tiniest spark of light.

The idea: “Catch the Flash” – the first chase, which makes the invisible visible. An online game on a microsite and live event at the same time in the streets of Vienna.

The kick-off: 50 runners were equipped with Vapor Flash Jackets. Every jacket had a number on its back, which was only revealed when taking a photo using the cameras flash. The runners spread all over Vienna and the hunt began.

The task: take as much numbers, as you can. Equipped with smartphones and digital cameras the participants ran for the numbers. The reward: the hunter with the most numbers on his/hers device got a sparkling platinum bar worth € 10k.

Simultaneously, the rest of the world took part on the microsite. All 50 Vapor Flash Runners transferred their GPS data to the “Catch the Flash Online Game” in real time by using a purpose-built app. Therefor all online participants were able to track and hunt down the runners live via a game based on Google Maps.
