I was commissioned by Nike to illustrate five basketball players, that will exhibit as murals in the House of Hoops store in Rotterdam. One of the conditions was, that the illustrated players had to be recognizable and their team shirts legible.
The result is based on the idea of pixels as three-dimensional modular building blocks. The major advantage of this idea is that each individual pixel can vary in size. More sharpness and legibility is obtained by decreasing the pixel size. While increasing the pixel size provides a ‘motion blur’ which relates to the dynamics of the sport.
