This project is a collaboration with the Maori language school Te Puna Wanaka. My aim was to display their proverb as a visual typographic poster. The proverb I received reads; He korero waimeha, toi ana i te kawa.
Which translates into; Distasteful words cause friction. Say what you mean, mean what you say.

My inspiration for this project was the hands on approach that the Maori have in all aspects of life and the string games that they play. I used wood, nails, string and a lot of hard work to create this piece. The concept of my design is to encapsulate the words into a web. This symbolizes the mind and the "distasteful" words have been caught within the web as they should not be spoken.

 

I created this stop motion movie sequence to show the time and effort it took to create the piece from scratch and the process behind it. Enjoy.
