Music Notation 2
- MUSIC CYMATICS 2
- After completing my first project exploring cymatics, I was offered the facilities and software which allowed me to carry out the experiment in much more detail. My previous exploration was done with low tech equipment and the results were not as accurate. This time, the equipment was 100% accurate leading to much clearer visual results. If you have not seen my earlier project, cymatics is visually representing sound through vibration. Each note or sound has a frequency and Hz value, specific equipment allowed me to play each note into a plate which vibrated. In order to get a visable pattern, sand is poured on top of the plate, when the note is played the sand settles and forms the shapes below. This project shows the visual results of the experiment, I will be using the shapes to form a larger idea but wanted to simply present the results as they were such interesting patterns.
- DIAGRAM OF NOTES CAPTURED
The grey notes show the notes which gave a visual result. The reason the lower notes didn't register a visual is because their frequency and Hz value was to low to vibrate the plate with enough energy to create a physical reaction.
Notes shown on Octave grid.- IMAGESPlease respect that the following images are vectors I made from the photos taken of the plates, they may not be completely symmetrical. I didn't want to reduce them into perfect forms. The varying width of line and white space brings a human feel to the notes and captures the sense of movement where the sand vibrated. The images increase in complexity as the frequency values goes up. I images are ordered from lowest to highest.
