This quote made me think about how today we share music with each other. One bud in our ears and another in a friend's. I wanted to create a very minimalistic piece and chose a pair of generic white iPod earbuds, problem being that of course the wire isn't that long. I created this poster by forming as many letters as possible with the earbuds and photographing it. After that I move on to the next set and eventually Photoshop the pictures together in one poster.
This project was very difficult in execution for me. I didn't have proper photographic equipment and did this in the confines of my dormitory. I nailed up a drawing of the path I wanted the wire to take directly in front of a window. Any photographer can tell you the sun doesn't stay in one place very long, the sun in Nanjing sets pretty early so this took 2 days and a lot of Photoshopping to account for the white balance and lighting changes. It could have been done in one day, but once the sun started going down I'd have to change the ISO which would have made splicing the photographs together too difficult because of film grain. So I just waiting until the sun came up again.
Also had the problem of keeping a camera on a tripod steady and angled roughly the same way to prevent distortion and size differences.
