This was a system design project done during my exchange semester at Politechnico di Milano under the LENS network. Research documents about the target region and a basic design of the Mulo vehicle were given to us. We did an analysis of the existing system based on the sustainability criteria set by LENS and designed a product-service system based on them. Our system was evaluated and monitored by local professors in the target area, which helped us identify specific local needs and design the system accordingly.
We designed the system as a socio-technical experiment along with transition paths so that it may be implemented slowly and eventually replace the current system.
The Mulo vehicle was previously designed by students under the LENS network. It is a solar, electric or human powered vehicle. This modified version of the Mulo was designed for this project which would use solar powered batteries and human power, as required.
Above is the sytem map of the sytem designed as a socio-technical experiment with transition paths and feedback loops.
Below is the system map for the fully implemented self-sustaining system.
