Mr. Juice
I received a brief to conceptualize and execute a character for an (in-progress) e-commerce site that deals with all the tasty wonders of juice. The brief is short and sweet: "Make a fun, cute, gentlemanly character that is unmistakably about all things juicy".
The only limitation is that he is to be executed entirely in vector, for practical, digital reasons.
The client saw the first sketch and loved his get-up. Everyone had good laughs about his expression, the bow tie, the quirky pants and last but not least, the drinking straw cane. The only additional request was to see if a droplet-style head would be more appropriate for Mr. Juice, just to cover all of our bases.
I fought for the leaflet hair-hat; It's playful and it's a visual bookmark that unmistakably puts the "Juice" in "Mr. Juice". I will confess that being an addict for fresh-squeezed orange juice contributed to this direction. With the client's blessing, I moved onwards to lock down a final rendering style.
It was time to suit him up in Illustrator,
I gave Mr. Juice the option of a brighter coat, alluding to the feel of a refreshing drink . The client asked to see if the darker coat that was in the initial sketch would make Mr. Juice more gentlemanly.
After what was a fun, quick yet fulfilling venture, we happily arrived at a final look for Mr. JuiceLook forward to seeing more of him in the near future!
