Director: Spike Jonze
Rating: 5/5
Where the Wild Things Are may have been a beloved childrens novel but this movie is an adaptation, not a recreation of the book. In fact, I could hardly consider it a childrens movie, it goes far deeper than I believe the book ever did . Spike Jonze took a book about a kid who throws a tantrum and imagines a world for himself where he feels important and changed it into something with depth, character, and feeling something multi-dimensional. How can anyone complain about that?
I believe the answer to where the wild things are is within yourself. This creatures were obvious extensions of Maxs personalityeven sometimes saying the same things. Carol for when hes angry, K.W. for when hes caring, Judith for when hes obnoxiously loud. By working through their problems and talking to each of them, he was able to face his own problems for what they truly were monsters.
Some may feel that the ending was unresolved, that you didnt get the answer you were looking for. Honestly, I thought the ending was perfect. Nothing more needed to be explained (of course I wanted to know how long he had been gone and if he had washed his hands before eating but those are not necessarily important). The heartwarming looks from mother to son was all that was needed. In fact, I feel that if there was any explanation it takes away from the story. The point almost seems to be to make the audience think, Did it really happen?
If you were given a chance to face your monsters, would you come out alive?

Mad Men Season One
Creator: Matthew Weiner
Channel: AMC
Genre: Period PieceRating: 4/5
Its been a while since Ive seen a show that made me so angry and repulsed and yet captivated. Every man cheats on his wife and every wife is made out to be boring and unexciting. Secretaries are more than likely sexy and sassy than frumpy which I guess is the stereotype of the 1960s.
While most of the side characters stay kind of one-dimensional, the main characters are truly given life that make you either love them, sympathize with them, or completely hate them and want them to die. A character starts out with a mindset, and slowly, we are revealed as to why he or she feels that way. Sometimes, an action is misunderstood sometimes, its not. In fact, Im still trying to figure out why some characters are so crazy.
This show has had me screaming that men are pigs and my boyfriend yelling that women are crazy. Im sure that this is more bad than it is good. It reminds me of when Ive watched Korean dramas and they cause me to have unrealistic expectations in my life only now Im worried that my one-day-husband will cheat on me with every woman he finds attractive, he will smoke 2 packs a day, and have an average of 3 drinks a day.
