Entry into the Hunt Museum, Limerick, Exhibition entitled "Traces"
2nd year Painting students from Limerick School of Art and Design responded to the collection the Hunt Museum, Limerick.
My pieces were entitled "Motif", as a response to the decoration found all around the Hunt Museum. At first I looked at the elaborate frames in the museum. But as I walked around I found that decoration in the Hunt is everywhere. Motifs are a significant element of most of the artefacts, showing people’s desire for aesthetically pleasing items and showing us the progression of decoration and motif over time. I wanted to make something aesthetically pleasing to illustrate our desire for beautiful things.
Below: Tracing Paper piece incorporating the motif. Parts are shaded in more, or erased to show the decay and weathering of time on artifacts, such as the ones found in the Hunt Museum. Done in pencil and black artist pen.
