I've designed a few icons in my time. If I had to estimate, I would put the number at around ten thousand.
I started designing icons back in the days before the .png file format, when the 8-bit alpha transparency didn't exist. I often had to blend the edges of my icons pixel by pixel. I have a few opinions about the usage (or perhaps, over-usage) of icons in modern software. Ask me about it sometime.
Here is just a small sampling of some of the more interesting icons I've created.
