Our first journey led us to Portugal, where we met a passionate surfer, Lourenco Amilcar (also called Mica).
He was born on the 4th of March 1973 in Ericeira (Portugal).
Coming from a deprived background he knows what it means to start from scratch...
When he was a child he only had one great wish: to have his own surfboard.
He quit school, started working as a car mechanic but he was still utterly unhappy.
However, his manual skilfulness did not remain undiscovered for a long time. At the age of 15 he started working in a famous surfboard factory in Portugal called “Semente“.
His dream of having his own surfboard came true. The passion for surfing was growing each day and soon he could not do anything else but live for the surfing.
Before long he was sponsored and started taking part at competitions.
In 2005, he officially retired from his surfing career and founded his own company „Micasurfboards“.
Being always eager to improve himself, he refined his shaping techniques. This is an ongoing process for him and he is constantly trying to successfully implement the feedback of his customers from all over the world. Surfing is his life, building surfboards is his true calling and he considers fishing to be his therapy.
Mica stood his ground, discovered his talent early and constantly lived for his passion. Though he also worked hard for it.
