The objective of this group project was to design an installation at a specific MetroLink Station that highlights St. Louis literary figures through typographic elements. My group of four was assigned the Arch"Laclede’s Landing Station. Our virtual client is the Metro St. Louis Arts in Transit program and our audience includes MetroLink riders and the general community. The project focuses on our three-dimensional presentation of each author and their significance to the downtown St. Louis area. Using “Literary St. Louis” as a starting point in our research development, we individually collected information regarding our respective authors in order to gather a biography, timeline and important quotations. The literary figures my group chose were based on their relationship to downtown St. Louis and specifically to the Mississippi riverfront. Our form references the open book. We wanted to create a space that the audience can move through and interact with. Each form features the author’s name in large type on the outward face of the form to capture the audience’s interest. The Mississippi River serves as a visual connection and conceptual framework between our forms and authors. The river became the structure for our timelines, which flows from form to form.
