(2011) - ENGMetier is an ecuadorian brand of handwoven hats, they work closely with artisans from various towns in Ecuador, who keep alive this tradition and art of craftsmanship.
For this project, Metier wanted to redesign their box and tag, which serve as packaging for their products. They also wanted to create sub-brands for three of their "One of a Kind Hats" product lines, and design additional tags for each one of them.
About Metier
These hats are handwoven from straw (carludovica palmata), they're recognized all over the world as "Panama" hats, but the truth is that this kind of hat has been made in Ecuador for centuries, they received the "Panama" moniker because that's the place where they have been sold and popularized since the California Gold Rush.
Metier is also about embracing nature and taking care of it, they're always interested in doing things that leave a small footprint in the ecosystem, including their stands and printed material, such as packaging.

Para este proyecto, Metier necesitaba un rediseño de su caja y etiqueta, que componen el packaging de sus productos. Además, necesitaban crear sub-marcas para tres de sus líneas de producto "One of a Kind Hats" (Sombreros Únicos) y diseñar etiquetas adicionales para cada una de ellas.
Acerca de Metier
Estos sombreros son tejidos a mano, hechos con paja toquilla (carludovica palmata), son reconocidos en todo el mundo como sombreros de "Panamá", pero la verdad es que han sido manufacturados en Ecuador por siglos, recibieron el apodo "Panamá" porque este es el lugar en que fueron vendidos y se hicieron populares desde la fiebre del oro de California en el siglo XIX.
En Metier, están interesados en optimizar recursos para afectar de manera mínima a la naturaleza, proyectándose con esta filosofía en sus stands y material impreso, como packaging.

The procces of weaving a hat by hand is graced by the use of straw dyed in different colors to create a unique hat. / El proceso de tejido a mano se ve enriquecido por el uso de paja teñida en diferentes colores, creando un sombrero único. - Re-Tied by Metier
In the pure spirit of recycling with style, these hats use vintage ties as ribbons. These ties are rescued from flea markets and obscure wardrobes, and brought back to life. / En el más puro espíritu de reciclar con estilo, estos sombreros usan corbatas antiguas como cintas. Estas corbatas son rescatadas de mercados de pulgas y guardarropas oscuros, cobrando nueva vida.
