A personal project that I decided to create last November based off of my early childhood love for comic books. I grew up on comics, learned how to draw from them, and have always been inspired by the influential work of some of the great masters like Jack Kirby, Will Eisner, Jim Lee, and Carl Barks to name a few.
Often times I have seen really great paintings of comic book characters, but many of them feature the heroes. With this project I wanted to do something a bit different by shining the light on the bad guys. I started by gathering some inspiration for each of the characters and asking friends to see what villains they would most like to see me include in this series. From there I did sketches of each of the eight villains before scanning them into Photoshop to clean them up. Once that step was completed I began painting and really trying to push myself throughout the process. After spending over a month on each of these eight paintings I am proud to present to you my first digital painting series: Marvel Villains.
