Marudham - Branding & Identity

  • Marudham
Branding and Identity for a School.
    Guided by S.M. Shah
  • Marudham is a school that specializes in experiential education and believes that learning happens beyond the four walls. Marudham believes in inspiring children to question, seek and find answers than to impose facts. Loosely based on Krishnamurthi's philosophies and the Dean, Educator and Designer Mohan Chinnaswamy's own, the school is a hub to creatively engage children into education. Disregarding the methods of the tyrannical indian education system and adopting a more subtler, friendlier approach to enrich lives and the future.

When i started on the identity, i did not want to create a simple form and a logotype for the school. The school's ideals should be conveyed through the logo in a way that the identity and the school's idea can never be seperated.

The direction that was taken was the thought that what if the kids can draw their own logo for the school? That will inspire a sense of ownership and pride to the child about his/her school. So i went about designing a system and a visual language by which each child can design his/her own logo for the school.
  • Sketches for the logotype and form.
  • Final Logo and logotype. I had a constraint to create the logotype in Tamil Language.
  • Digitized version of the different logos created by the children for the school.
  • School Letterhead
  • Business Cards
  • Signage Concept
  • Cover of the school magazine "In Time". Readers of the magazine are primarily Parents of the students who are informed of the activities and recent developments and ideas of the school. I tried to encourage the children to create their own covers for the first issue.
  • Digitized version of the covers designed by some students.
