  • The Speciality range of food was created because more than ever customers wanted to know where their food was coming from and how it was being produced. The emergence of farmers markets and specialist food shops offering good quality British food was also playing a part in what customers were looking for.
     
    From the grocery to the farm, to the bakery, to the sea, to the chocolatier and so on, the Speciality range offered customers the very best tasting foods from home and abroad. Ethically sourced and carefully produced.
     
    I worked on the 'Speciality' range for the best part of my contract at M&S (almost 3 years) and the Organic range evolved out of that too. So this was a huge project for me to be involved in.
     
    The design was created by the senior designer in my team and reflects the quality of the product and ingredients. The use of a solid black background, elegant, neutral colored typography (sometimes gold foil), beautiful, rustic, good, honest photography offers a balance in design that is simple and elegant.
     
    And it was my responsibility to implement it - make it all happen - across every shape and size of packaging. I had to ensure consistency in every element of the design and make decisions about how it was going to work, especially on the compromising and often challenging pieces.
