This is my marae. It is called Pakake Taiari, and is it the gateway to Ngati Tuwharetoa. Situated in Mokai, New Zealand, 26kms west of Taupo, this is a sacred (tapu) place.
There are literally hundreds of marae situated around New Zealand, or Aotearoa, as it is commonly referred to. And it is still a vital part of the community for Maori.
Personally, I have experienced many a happy and even sad times here. Birthdays, Weddings and Funerals (Tangi). And have slept under this roof on many occasions, and remember this time fondly.
Now abroad overseas, I feel somewhat nostalgic and will always have a spiritual connection to this place and my homeland.
Thanks for stopping by!
