An article on the colourful, mixed hybrid language in Malaysia that us locals have come to know and love. A strange combination of Malay, Chinese, Tamil and English, suffice it to say that people often have difficulty comprehending Manglish on their first try - this article aims to rectify that and lessen the challenges of facing Manglish for the first time.
The nature of the article is in itself very dictionary-like and seems like it can be a bit of a bore - although the tone and writing style doesn't really describe it as such. Thus I attempted to incorporate some bright, striking colours into the design and even added some speech bubbles with excerpts of famous Manglish sayings to balance out the images vs text ratio (even though it's really text, come to think of it...)
This piece was a featured article in No Sweat!, an induction magazine for young college students in Taylor's University College Subang Jaya, Malaysia.
One of my first editorial designs hence the relative inexperience in dealing with grids, but I'm learning, I hope!
