Using Bodoni as an underlay, Mandrake is a hand drawn typeface that contrasts thick and heavy roots with thin and light plants. The x-height of the typeface is indicative of the ground, below are the roots and above are the plants. Classic botanical drawings were used as inspiration for Mandrake.
Bodoni is a classic typeface with a combination of strokes that are bold and strokes that are thin. This contrast was perfect for the different forms found in nature to be represented within one typefce.
