- Artist's Magazine ReDesignDecember 2010 Issue
I had the opportunity to choose a magazine for redesign. The redesign included: the cover, contents page, letter to the editor and one article.
I chose The Artist’s Magazine with a desire to create a solution that would exhibit featured artwork. I wanted to keep the magazine characteristics yet create a gallery-like appearance. The name, The Artist’s Magazine, remains the same, but the emphasis is on the posessive word "Artist’s." This was done to give the reader a sense of relation and ownership. The type was chosen because its slender qualities tend to contrast the painting, making the artwork pop.
I wanted to use certain paintings to lead the eye throughout the pages.
By setting images to the side of text, the artwork is as close as possible to hanging in a white-walled gallery.
The text layout flows like the fluid lines in a painting, and has the look and feel of simple organization. The red text brings unity to the copy and artwork, organizing the flow of the reader’s eye.
