Tim Burton Exposition at the MOMA

Ovando was commissioned to create the tablescapes and thematching floral design for the Tim Burton tribute dinner preceding the launchof his 2009-2010 exposition at The MOMA. The look & feel of our floralinstallations aimed to recreate the playfully enigmatic feel of some of TimBurtons other works like Beetlejuice or Alice in Wonderland. The floralinstallation strewn across the step-and-repeat wall was meant to convey a senseof movement, as though the flowers could come to live at any moment and envelopa nearby onlooker. So, too, did Ovando experiment with anthropomorphism whendesigning the tablescapes of the event. Wisteria vines were draped across themany dining tables, twisted amongst orchids, roses, waves of moss & variousair plants. As a finishing touch, Ovando wrapped tea light candles in glaxleaves. This created an appearance of light as emerging from the flowers andplants themselves, again as though these objects were coming to life.
