In a post modern world with an emphasis on combining cultures, have the traditional forms of martial arts which were built on ethics, culture, and religious backgrounds been lost? Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) events have been held since 1989 in Japan. In 1993 the Ultimate Fighting Championship was formed to discover who, and which fighting style was the best. MMA incorporates boxing, wrestling, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, muay Thai, kickboxing, karate, judo along with others. Many of these date back over centuries, thought of as a lifestyle and forms of self defence rather than a way to showcase force. These styles have been combined to make things which were once traditional arts to become a commercial sport.
