Following back-to-back MLS Cup victories the 2013 Los Angeles Galaxy entered the semi-finals with a chance to join a prestigious international fraternity of clubs who have . Staying inside the "indie and edgy," do-it-yourself aesthetic of the league's "This Is Soccer" campaign, I was asked to create a short look at the teams that reached the "three-peat" milestone. Starting with MJ and the 90's-era Chicago Bulls and looking through the international soccer clubs that have been there and done that. Using the trophies of won by each team in their respective championships and photos of the victory celebrations a one-minute retrospective was put together.

 

The transitions, if you were to go frame-by-frame, are a short burst of action photos leading up to the vitory photos. The same transition concept is used on the social media tag used on this video, and the other projects I worked on for MLS Digital, which stuck closer to the brand guidelines than the generic tag that was provided.

 

As things happen of course before this piece made it outside of the screens of the Major League Soccer offices, Landon Donovan, Robbie Keane and the Galaxy lost, by aggregate, to eventual MLS Cup finalists Real Salt Lake. So the whole piece becomes an editorial look at what could have been.
