MBBT Exhibition 2013 (Makanlah Buah-buahan Tempatan)

Durian. Langsat. Duku. Nangka. Jambu and other buah-buahan tempatan (local fruits) – a popular drawing theme in primary school, is perhaps a distant and yet fun-filled childhood memory that is closely held within our heart. Makanlah Buah-Buahan Tempatan (MB–BT) Exhibition is a collaborative effort by LIE & friends to promote local fruits & to rally the nation to appreciate (and consume) locally crafted art. This group exhibition featuring over 40 Malaysian artists and designers, it showcases how we interpret the theme and turn it into visual and imagery.

'From my face you can know my heart'
When i was still a kid i'd always loved to count the 'petals' on the mangosteen, then i opened it, 'Yes i've got it right again! It's 6 segments just like how the 'petals' have shown!'  I know it's kind of lame but how good is it when you can know something inside by just looking at outside? You'll never get it wrong. I think mangosteen is an intuitive fruit, the petals on it indicate the very core of its' being.
To some people, Durian stinks this way!
So, feed it to the crocodile since they have the same color and similar texture. Just kidding.
Banana is also one of the famous fruits in Malaysia. They say banana can prevent constipation. (Minions were hot topic during the exhibition, but too bad those bananas weren't for them.)
Talk about watermelon... it's about pregnancy. Some of the little girls they like to keep something underneath their clothes and pretending they are pregnant.
Banana is a term given to Chinese people who cannot speak Chinese. Just like a banana, they are yellow on the outside but white on the inside.
I like floating rambutans.
Local fruits are seasonal. When it's on the season, the fruit stalls are full of these colors and they are beautiful. Rambutans, Durians, Mangosteen ...
This is from my childhood memories, they seperated the class according to the Fruits in the kindergarten. Be it Pineapple class, Apple class ...
The love story between a fruit and a vegetable.
The exhibition was held at Publika, Solaris Dutamas. (Photos are credited to curator and team of MBBT 2013)
