Catalog for my solo show
MARGINALIZATION (Office 2010/11) - Center for Graphic Arts and Visual Researches, Faculty of Fine Arts, Belgrade, Serbia
27.09 - 11.10.2011.
The design of the catalog is part of the whole MARGINALIZATION project, trying to reflect all the following thoughts, explained in my statement.
The man has become a prisoner of the Civilisation. The Civilisation is a living organism, a human creation that got out of control. We can't escape it, it is futile to try. Compulsively we are building walls, obstacles, we are hiding from each other and ourselves, we are the ones that are taking away the personal human rights, we are being marginalized. Without even perceiving it, we are isolating ourselves from the rest of the world, even though we live in illusion of a vivid communication. We work in order to earn for living. We live, in order to work, in order to earn for living. Circulus vitiosus. The end of humans begins, thanks to the humans.
This is work is perceived in a very personal level, but is reflecting what might be defined as a global feeling.
Personal experience of working in the office has somewhat started twisting my perception. I have been marginalizing myself, with my free will – from my free will, from the normal, ordinary life and from my own art practice. The result is series of repetitive works, digital prints on Plexiglas, approximate scale of 30x30cm, that are supposed to be set up hanging in the gallery space, object that can be faced and observed closely, even touched, objects that are creating obstacles and also objects that, like windows, are letting us see trough them, but letting us see the limited view to another wall. I have started with colour, slowly simplifying it into the monochrome black and white abstract geometrical compositions of the nocturnal views.
At the same time, the only contrast to dull repetition of the same motif, are small digital prints, 10x10cm, also on Plexiglas, not transparent in this case, but saturated with colour, and a bit dark, simplified into small dream sequences, representing what I call „stealing of my personal time from myself“. Those „dream sequences“ are actually random shots made during the short and hectic travels in real time and real space, moments stolen from working hours in the office. There are only 10 of them, ten reminders of a real life or ten questions whether is the Office with the capital O actually the real life and ten scenes just fragments of daydreaming.
The series is made during 2010/11. and is still developing Read Less
