This ongoing series offers representations of my experiences in nature's lowlands. Once immersed in such primeval places, colors come and go within a subtle, atmospheric perspective often emphasized by rich, wet black: infinite in its complexity, mysterious and beautiful. Far from being pure nature studies, these paintings are largely derived from memory and imagination, less concerned with anatomical accuracy, and more concerned with attempting to portray how I feel about the subjects. These works are initially developed as contour drawings, wherein flat color is then added, and finally modulation of form to achieve a subtle yet exaggerated sense of light. The results of this process are highly stylized representations.
