Life drawings

  • Anatomically correct?
    the difficulty with people
  • I recently decided that I would start life drawing classes again. There were lots of reason, but mainly because it had always been, and continues to be, a real challenge for me to draw people and faces with any degree of confidence.

I think its probably because of a heightened pattern recognition brain function, which means i never get what I want from the observation study.

That said I have been enjoying the classes immensely and can see where I have improved over time.

I have shown just the simple pencil sketches, either graphite of cartridge or white water colour pencil on black cartridge. I have started to experiment with a number of other mediums as well, including ink and a wash.

The poses are a range of 3mins through to 40mins as a longer sitting. I like my simple 3 minute sketches best for their honestly, dynamism and easy fluidity.

These are all at A2 size and my apologies for the poor reproduction quality but haven't got decent studio lights to photograph them properly.
  • David, 20mins - I prefer michelangelo's though
  • David again - 20mins
  • pencil and wash, 20mins

  • Erica (pregnant) - 30mins
  • soft pencil (6B) - 20mins
  • white water colour pencil on cartridge - 20mins
