    Uyghurs of Xinjiang, China
  • While working as a photographer in China, I became aware of the plight of the ethnic Uyghurs and other Turkic-Muslim minorities that inhabit the northwestern province of Xinjiang.

    In recent years, the community was feeling increased pressures to assimilate their cultural uniqueness into the "official" mainstream of Chinese society.

    I realized I needed to document the traditional lifestyle of the Uyghurs before it changed forever.
