Illustrations of a Changed Earth and Beyond

The illustrations of a Lovecraftian world – Dreams, Visions and Nightmares. A window into the fantastic by Brian Hubenig. Medium - Photoshop collage.
London 1897. The first wave of trans-dimensional beings exit the portal exploring what's left of London, England. This 'agent' was sent by his masters to assess colonization of Earth. Several secret societies attempt to use their mystic powers to close the portal – unsuccessfully.
Scene taken from H.P. Lovecraft's "Call of Cthulhu"
Maighdean na Tuinne (Maid of the Wave) Mermaids were often depicted as beautiful women but upon closer inspection (after they drag an unfortunate sailor underwater) their true forms were seen – predatory and alien.
London National Gallery 1928. A "watcher" absorbs the 'resonance' of the art in the gallery. The massive eye of a 'great one' peeks in the broken skylight. Otherworldly invaders preserve some aspects of human culture so they can study these primitives – to subjugate them more effectively.
Scene taken from H.P. Lovecraft's "At the Mountain of Madness"
Matriarch of Juhl paused only a moment to allow me to capture her portrait. She was fleeing the city of Juhl at the time, something to do with factional infighting, yet she carried herself with the dignity of a monarch.
Getting my subject to relax when I illustrate their portrait is difficult. Sir William Redcrest was no exception to this. He preened for hours before the sitting. To help him relax I asked him to hold his favourite fruit in his hand. This is the result.
Berlin 1943 – "I was musing about better times before 'they' came when I heard the unmistakable clicking noise of a great insect. From the city ruins came a man with the head of a mantis! I had never seen this variation of outworlder before. It stood on a small rise it's great eyes swirled around taking in the destructed vista. I took aim." - From the journal of Tom Blackwell, Human Resistance Movement.
"Discussions and Deliberations"
Yucatan Peninsula 1923 - "Where there is evil, there seems to be a counter measure of good. In my travels I have seen these crow-headed creatures around ancient temples. I have observed them watching these sites of ritual closely. They hate the cephalopod and their minions it seems and go out of their way to disrupt their plans. To my knowledge no one has ever been able to communicate with them with any success. For now I'm thankful they hunt the foul creatures that pour from the portals." – Sir Richard Martin, Explorer
London Train Station 193(?) – "The only thing that seems to be untouched by the invaders is the moon. But through this blue haze even that looks strange. I managed to avoid the notice of a "Thal Ak' Thil". They are everywhere these days. This one seemed to be preoccupied with the strange glowing symbols that swirled around his head. I wonder what it's doing? Or maybe that's best left alone – perhaps the realization would drive me insane." - From the journal of Tom Blackwell, Human Resistance movement.
