  • Letterpress 101
A lesson in empathy for printers of days passed
  • A school project where we were required to print a quote on the letterpress using two colors and one dingbat. The use of real lead and wood typefaces made for an authentic experience as well as a lesson in empathy for printers of the past and the difficulties they went through when printing by hand. I used a Robert Bringhurst quote that sums up the art of typography nicely; "Don't use a font you don't need." Large wood type was used for the word "font" while lead Century Gothic type set in various sizes was used for the rest of the quote.
