Sophomore Year - The purpose of this project was to create our own letter from an object of our choice. I chose my stuffed animal of many years, Meeko, from the Disney movie Pocahontas. We went through many sketching phases until finally coming up with our own letter that was an abstraction of our object. We named our letters, mine is called Yuc, and had to find a typeface that our letter seemed to belonged with.
We started off by making very realistic renderings of our objects. From looking at these realistic drawings we began to make abstract drawings, from which we could make our final letter from.
I picked my top 3 abstractions to bring into illustrator. I began to make them even more abstract to the point were they began to look like letters.
As you can see, my final letter comes from the middle abstraction. I cleaned the abstraction up for my final letter. We had to write a description about why our new letter was important for the alphabet and present it to the class.
