Layered Topography
- Layered Topography
Experiments in Soft Maple - This is a coffee table I constructed out of soft maple and cherry. Since architecture is my primary discipline, I wanted to design a table that used topography to give the flat surfaces more depth. I had an idea of layering the maple to get added dimension instead of routing out a solid piece of wood. The desired effect was somewhat achieved, although soft maple was quite difficult to work with once it was thinly sliced (lots of bowing problems = lots of clamping)!
