It took me awhile to kick off the summer with drawings...junior year had really drained me, and for about a month and a half I felt completely unmotivated. Then I started working, finally, on this drawing. No real narrative or purpose in mind - just experimenting.
This drawing followed soon after. Ambiguous narrative implied. No set characters or plot to base this off of. I kind of just made up a story in my head as I drew it.
Just another experimental drawing. At this point I was working with a three tone system and liking the results.
Redrawing a panel from a graphic novel my friend and I had unsuccessfully attempted making freshman year. I was pretty desperate for subject matter, and I remember never being satisfied with how it had turned out, visually, freshman year.
Still looking for subject matter to illustrate, I turned to a short story I'd written sophomore year. This image depicts Matthew, a hermit obsessed with televangelism and the Apocalypse, answering the door. He scares the door-to-door missionary, Jerome, on the other side, who thinks Matthew looks like "a cannibal, fresh from the killing fields." Jerome has just robbed a liquor store, and is seeking a hideout, and a convert.
Again, I turned to a sophomore year short story for subject matter to illustrate. This illustration depicts a scene from Horace in the Big City. Horace is saved from his own fire, against his will, by a massive firefighter.
