Lasercut Aluminum Business Cards

After my first lasercut business card was so well received, I decided to take it one step further. The main problem with the lasercut 2mm thick acrylic cards is that they were way too thick in my pocket. I needed something that was as thin as a regular paper business card, but looked amazing and left a big impression. One day on eBay I found anodized aluminum business cards which could be etched with a cnc laser. I knew these would be the proper medium to present myself as a capable free thinker.
Some of the new black anodized aluminum business cards on the left, and my old bright green acrylic business card on the right. The new cards are only 0.5mm thick which means these four new cards have the same thickness in total compared to the old green card!
The finished business card design made in Solidworks. Although this looks extremely real, it is only a computer rendering.
Taking the design from solidworks and working with it in Coreldraw software so that I can designate what the laser cutter needs to do.
The laser cutter is rastering through the black anodized coating and exposing the silver looking aluminum underneath.
The final product next to the old business card. It was difficult using the Coreldraw software to laser cut the QR code onto the back of the business card. The user can scan the code with their smart phone device and it will bring them directly to my behance portfolio page. The url for the page is also included on the front of the business card.
After wondering why the QR code wouldn't scan on my phone, I realized that the laser cutting process was exposing a bright color, not printing black ink like in the case of most QR codes. So I had to go back and reverse the QR code foreground and background, but now it works great!
