Lithography - Buddhism

Brief: Two prints in relates to each other based on one theme.

PART I
Breaking the religion into parts, there are many factors that actually represent it. Being a Buddhist myself, I’ve chosen to create a portrait / collage of ‘The Laughing Buddha’. His name is ‘Budai’ which literally means ‘Cloth sack’ in Mandarin. He is always shown smiling or laughing, hence his nickname in Chinese, the Laughing Buddha. His figure appears throughout Chinese culture as a representation of Contentment.

The techniques used on this piece are blocking out, stencilling and the use of lithography pencil.
PART II
To create another print in relates to the first print, I kept the theme of Buddhism, I decided to draw the Gautama Buddha. He is the primary figure of Buddhism. ‘Buddha’ means ‘the enlightened one’. His statue is mostly seen in many countries that has majority of the population being buddhism and the fact that it is very much respected, there is no one temple that doesn’t have the statue of ‘The Gautama Buddha’.

The techniques used on this piece are scraping, rubbing ink, crayon and Litho Tusche Stick.
