The design for my own wedding invitations was a challenge that took the better part of a year and a half. I designed table cards, escort cards, a wedding program, thank you cards, a guest book, and a seating chart. Here is a description of the inspiration:
We started with the season of autumn and decided to incorporate trees and a starry night sky as design elements - the trees would represent his down-to-earth, practical personality; and the stars would represent my slightly out there, creative personality. The palette consisted of a dark mahogany brown, cobalt blue, ivory, and touches of silver. I am a watercolor painter and wanted to incorporate that somehow into my letterpress suite, so I spoke with Gilah Press + Design, and came up with offset printing a watercolor wash on the invitations first. I also wanted a silver metallic finish to the stars, so I blind embossed the dots for the stars and hand painted them afterward with silver ink. I love having complete creative control; so I decided to all of the invitation calligraphy and the envelope calligraphy myself.
