While at Youtube channel KICKTV I was asked to create a logo for a producer to be able to pitch to the powers that be to travel the globe in search of different soccer/football stories in the each of the six soccer federations, regional governing bodies under FIFA, with the channel's main host, Jimmy Conrad. The name of the potential show, "World Tour 2014," inspiring I know. My direction was to make it a travel based design without showing a plane or other means of travel.
And so, given a lengthy two weeks without anyone to say that an idea might be off-lmiits. In my initial planning I was aware of the fact that while only a logo was asked for if the show was greenlit the rest of the package would be asked for at a far less convenient time to be worked on comfortably. And so much thought was put into creating a graphic language for the show that stood out from other things already on the channel and would catch the eye of the channel's 14-19 year old predominantly male audience.

This is a very organized presentation showing the evolution of an idea. The logo itself was just a combination of design ideas I've wanted to execute for sometime and the opportunity hadn't previously presented itself to make them work.
Even though I was completely satisfied with the above logo I also knew I had to provide other options and definitely didn't give them enough effort to really make them possibly desirable options. Shame on me. Thankfully that didn't completely backfire on me since the one I preferred was also the logo selected.
The idea behind last this icon was that Jimmy could have a physical "KICKTV World Cup" trophy to take with him on his travels and continue brand the channel with the tour of the trophy. Something that could have pictures in each location for social media. Also the title would be based on the idea that show is more satirical as it pokes a bit of fun at the host.
And this is where the project ended; still in clean and fresh vector diapers and, in my mind, unfinished. Partially because my official time with KICKTV ended and also because the show didn't make the cut.
Once I learned that it was okay for me to post all this design work and that it wasn't going to be used. My first thought was to finish the ideas and thoughts that I had when I started working on it. So I took a day, explored my other ideas for design elements, and added a little bit of polish to the whole package. It won't get used so might as well make it look the way I want it too.
The purpose of this screen was to identify the location of country, the federation that it plays in, and the hardware that they compete for leading up to the competition for the World Cup Trophy. Most of the KICKTV audience would be aware various trophies of UEFA, the European federation also the largest federation, but far fewer might know about CONCACAF Gold Cup. The idea being to inorm without having to interrupt the anything going on in the episode.
I'm pretty content with the look given only one day of polishing I also stumbled across some very nice Photoshop features that I previously didn't know about. It's ashame that the KICKTV audience didn't get to appreciate this but I can rest a little easier finally getting this all out to other eyes. One more previously unseen project out of the hard drive and into the cloud.
