  • KAMKYL URBAN ATELIER.
    439 Rue Saint Pierre, Montreal.

The 2000 square ft KAMKYL design boutique and studio was housed in the historic port area of Old Montreal and was part of the overall renovation of a empty historical building by ourselves.  On a search for the perfect retail space we fell in love with an old building lying empty and forgotten but yet located in the emerging area of The Old Port. We instantly saw the potential within the disused walls and bravely set forth on a major renovation project.  In addition to completely renovating and designing the ground floor commercial space we also spearheaded the renovation of the entire building into luxury lofts.

The finished urban space was perfectly represented us and our design business, but primarily it represented the KAMKYL COLLECTION.  Once finally renovated the retail space and studios represented craftsmanship, modernity and urban luxury  - all of which were core to the esthetic and values of the KAMKYL COLLECTION.  The commercial and loft spaces won several design awards and became recognized as a leading retail design space in North America.  We were especially proud that on our own talent and resources, and a comparatively very small budget, we were able to transform the empty 2000 sq ft space into a boutique/gallery which competed with some of the largest design brands on the level of boutique design and environment.

The interior space was inspired by the quite spirit present felt in large open communal spaces such as city train stations, churches, old synagogues and even the newest airport terminals.   The mix of the coming and goings of travel, slight smell of incense, waiting rooms and urban speed, places of spiritual quiet and purity, the past and the future.  The environment was carefully created to address all the senses of sight, sound, touch, smell and even taste.  Our luxury was the space and the product, the experience was KAMKYL.
